At HHL, partner Corbin Hanuš is always working to make accounting more efficient, accurate, and less time-consuming for his clients. In this conversation, Corbin shares how Truewind has changed the way HHL operates, the specific problems it helped solve, and what it’s like working with Truewind’s team.

How did you learn about Truewind?

I came across Truewind at AICPA Engage. When I met Alex and the crew, something about the platform caught my attention. They were using AI and solving bookkeeping challenges in a way that I hadn’t seen before. So, I thought, “Let’s give this a shot.”

At HHL, we help clients set up their internal accounting systems and processes, and a big part of that is removing inefficiencies wherever we can.

For instance, one of the main bottlenecks in accounting is manual categorization. If someone at a firm is spending 10 hours a week categorizing transactions, and we can cut that time in half by using Truewind, that’s a real and measurable impact. Those extra five hours can be redirected toward sales, marketing, or strategywork that directly helps grow the business.

Specifically, what problems were you trying to solve?

The biggest challenge was time—in particular, time wasted on manual work.

A lot of businesses don’t realize how many hours their team spends on bookkeeping until we break it down. I’ll say something like, “You’ve got someone manually categorizing every transaction in QuickBooks. But that same person is also responsible for marketing and customer acquisition. What if we could give them five or six hours back every week?” That’s when it really clicks.

Truewind automates a huge chunk of that busywork. It’s not just about making bookkeeping simpler; it’s about freeing up teams, and helping them focus on higher-value projects.

Can you share an example of Truewind making your work easier?

One of the best examples actually comes from my own books.

Last year, I spent two months traveling around Europe. When I got back, I had hundreds of transactions across my personal and business bank accounts. A lot of them were in different languages, and I had no idea what those charges were for.

It seemed like the only option was to manually go through every transaction—Googling vendor names, cross-checking receipts, and piecing it all together. Thankfully, that wasn’t necessary.

Truewind automatically pulled in the details I needed: vendor names, locations, and additional context about each purchase. If a charge had a memo line in another language, Truewind would translate it, identify the business, and then categorize it instantly.

That’s an extreme case, but the same thing applies to everyday bookkeeping. Business owners are constantly swiping their credit cards, and at the end of the month, they need to figure out where that money actually went. Truewind makes that process a lot easier.

More broadly, what are some of the biggest impacts that Truewind has had for HHL?

On credit card transactions alone, I’d say Truewind has cut my categorization time by about 75 percent. That adds up quickly. Over the course of a year, we’re talking dozens of hours saved. And when you scale that across an entire firm, the impact is huge.

But if I had to pick the biggest benefit, I’d say it’s how Truewind unlocks new opportunities. A lot of accounting tools have very narrow use cases—they’re built to solve one specific problem. But Truewind is different. Because of the way it uses AI, the impact goes beyond bookkeeping. It fundamentally changes how firms operate by giving them better data, which leads to more informed decisions and improved outcomes.

Another thing is the clarity that it brings to your books. When you select a transaction, Truewind doesn’t just categorize what you’ve clicked. It also pulls in details about the vendor, the nature of the expense, and generates insights that firms can actually use. That’s incredibly valuable—especially for accountants working line-by-line through financial statements, where accuracy really matters.

How about working with the Truewind team? What’s the experience been like?

Hands down, the customer service is amazing.

When I started using the platform, I told a few of Truewind’s engineers that I run on an accrual basis, and that I have clients who enter bills and invoices into QuickBooks. I mentioned that I needed a way to manually match a deposit or withdrawal to an invoice and mark it as paid.

Two weeks later, they built it.

That kind of responsiveness is rare. A lot of companies will tell you they value customer feedback, but with Truewind, I’ve actually seen them listen, build, and deliver—and they do it fast.

Finally, what’s next for HHL? Does Truewind fit into those future plans?

I’m in it for the long run with Truewind.

For the past few years, I’d been working as a sole practitioner with the brand name of Enturian. In December of 2024, I completed my first merger, and now I’ve got a team of 27 accountants, including 5 CPAs and 1 attorney.

That means more clients, more transactions, and a greater need for efficient systems. Truewind is going to be a huge part of that as we scale.

Looking ahead, my goal is to keep finding ways to give our customers an amazing experience, and to exceed their expectations. With Truewind, achieving those things becomes a lot easier.
